9th January 2017 – Happy New Year!!
Happy new year to all our club members, supporters and opposing teams. I hope you all had a nice, relaxing break.
I got a bit slack with the weekly updates before christmas, apologies for that. I will be sure to keep on top of them this half of the season.
This weekend (14th Jan) sees the first competitive games of 2017 being played and both teams are rearing to get started.
Both teams are playing at home in Iveagh Grounds this weekend at 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
It would be great to have some support on the sideline so dust off your thermals, wrap up and get yourself down. We’ll have some tea and cake in the clubhouse afterwards.
Best of luck to both teams!
13/11/2016 – Guinness 1sts proceed to second round of the cup
Guinness 1sts travelled to Navan on Saturday afternoon to play Navan 1sts.
It wasn’t very pretty hockey but then again it never is when there’s a shale pitch involved!
Both teams fought hard but Guinness seemed more comfortable on the shale than the home team did.
This worked to their advantage and some fantastic team work saw Annette H score a goal.
Guinness continued to keep the oppostion from scoring even though the second half ran for over 40 minutes.
They must keep different time up there in Meath.
Well done to the 1sts, they will play Railway Union 4ths on the 10th of December in the next round of the cup.
This Saturday the 19th, the 1sts play away to Our Ladys at 3pm and the 2nds play at home to Avoca 5ths at 10am.
All support welcome!
06/11/2016 – Winning weekend for both Guinness teams

Guinness seconds travelled to the National Sports Centre in Abbotstown to play SBPP Swords 3rds on Saturday morning.
Guinness dominated for most of the game, scoring 4 goals and not allowing the opposition the chance to score any goals.
Goals scored by Vani, Emily, Patty and Sue.
It was a well deserved win for the seconds, superb team work all round.
A massive well done to both teams.
“When you win, you win as a team.
It doesn’t matter if one person had more hits
or one person barely touched the ball.
You won as a team”
Best of luck to the firsts next weekend in their Cup game against Navan.
28/10/2016 – Fundraising quiz a success
Our annual fundraising table quiz was held last night in Diceys on Harcourt street.
It was a successful night all round with lots of people coming to support the club.

Guinness firsts were beaten 3-1 by Muckross 3rds on Saturday in Donnybrook.

“What is defeat?

nothing but the first step to getting better”

Caroline donned the goalie gear for her first league game between the posts and what a superb job she did.
She made some incredible saves throughout the game, she stayed focused and kept her cool for the 70 minutes.
It was a great debut against one of the strongest teams in division 10.
Every player worked hard but Wicklow were the more dominant team on the day, winning 5-0.
Well done, ladies, you all did fantastic.
Best of luck against UCD next weekend.
“Not every victory shows up on the scoreboard”
The 1sts took on Pembroke 5ths on Saturday, in a thrilling game of hockey.
The team work on display in Ballsbridge that day was beautiful to watch.
It was another fast paced game with some great plays.
Gráinne scored a hat trick, a goal from Eunice and another from Niamh saw them 5-0 up after less than 20 minutes.
Pembroke came back strong in the second half but they were no match for the strong Guinness defense.
Another well earned 3 points for the 1sts, well done!
Best of luck against Muckross next weekend.
13/10/2016 – Super win for Guinness 2nds
There was some outstanding hockey on display last night in Glasnevin by Guinness 2nds when they played Botanic 4ths.
The pace was set from the starting whistle. The whole team worked so well together creating beautiful passes and link ups and dominated the game throughout.
A short corner for Guinness saw Anna score a well deserved goal for the team.
The game ended 1-0 to Guinness.
The 2nd teams confidence and strength on the pitch seems to be growing every week, keep up the great work, ladies!

It was a fast paced game which seemed to really suit the home side, it got them thinking quick and acting fast which worked to their advantage.
An impressive link up saw Eunice score a well deserved goal for Guinness.

09/10/2016 – Great opening game for Guinness 2nds
Guinness 2nds played their first game of the season on Saturday afternoon at home in Iveagh grounds against Muckross 5ths.
It was an exciting game from start to finish.
Muckross 5ths lead the game 2-0 but Guinness 2nds came back strong with a goal from Suzie, another from Niamh and the final goal by Sue to even the score 3-3.
It was a fanastic first game for the 2nds, every player worked their socks off and kept their heads held high even when they were 2-0 down.
Not once did they let the score affect their play, they fought back and finished the game with an impressive tie.
There was great positivity and team work on display that evening against Muckross.
“Unity is strength… when there is team work and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved “

Both teams fought hard throughout the game but in the end the home side came out on top with a 2-0 victory.
Despite the score there were lots of positives to be taken from the game and every player should be proud of their performance.
Well done to both teams and as always thanks so much to Botanic for their wonderful hospitality, half time oranges and post match tea and cakes.

23/09/2016 – Division 5 for Guinness 1st’s
Some good news came our way from the Leinster branch the other evening by way of an offer of a place in division 5 for Guinness 1st’s.
The offer was made on the basis of their league standing at the end of last season, having narrowly missed out on a promotion.
Glenanne unfortunately had to pull their team out of the division this season allowing Guinness to replace them.
The firsts have gladly accepted the place and look forward to facing some tough opposition in division 5.
Updated fixtures are available here
22/09/2016 – Team Captains Announced
Both team captains have been announced for the 2016/2017 season.
Niamh Kinsella is back at the helm for the firsts again this year. She lead a superb team to many victories last season.
Niamh will return this season a more experienced captain with a stronger team that should leave their mark in Division 5.
Jen Hayde is stepping up to captain the seconds this year after getting a taste for it as vice captain last season.
Jens’ positivity, approach and can do attitude will rub off on the seconds and I’m sure they can dominate division 10 this season.
“Great leaders don’t set out to be a leader, they set out to make a difference. It’s never about the role, it’s always about the goal”
The goal this year is to work hard, play hard, win and enjoy every minute of it.
The very best of luck to Niamh and the firsts and to Jen and the seconds.

The upcoming 2016/2017 season is set to be a good one for our 1sts and 2nds. It is with great pleasure that we welcome on board ex international hockey player, Niamh Small, as our new coach. With Niamh’s expertise and our players skill, dedication and hard work it’s bound to be a season to remember.
Both teams finished strong last season with the 1sts finishing third in Division 6, narrowly missing out on promotion to Division 5. Our 2nds got promoted to Division 10 at the beginning of the season, they fought hard throughout and that fighting spirit allowed them to keep their place in Division 10 for the coming season.
